Kenya is a licensed professional counselor with 5 years’ experience working with at-risk youth and adults providing case management within residential settings and for managed care organizations. I earned my master’s degree from Concordia University at Chicago in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I currently provide mental health services surrounding trauma, depression, anxiety, and anger management to adolescents, adults, and families. I view life as ever-changing and that our everyday experiences change and shape who we are. I believe that as individuals we need someone to openly speak with about those changes when we struggle to discuss them with those around us. Counseling is a process of change and building a trusting relationship between counselor and client is monumental in that process.
Issues that you would want to resolve will be worked on collaboratively together. Identifying the issues you may want to address will help the process of creating an individual treatment plan. Each session will consist of reviewing progress made towards meeting goals, becoming aware of symptoms, and focusing on ways to cope and manage what’s within our control. What you bring to our sessions helps get us one step closer to building a relationship that is helpful and trusting.
I practice two therapeutic modalities, including cognitive-behavioral therapy and humanistic approaches. I will utilize interventions such as mindfulness, motivational interviewing, self – disclosure, and reframing during sessions or what may best fit you as an individual. Though I may use some of these interventions, I also do like to bring humor and joy into our sessions. I believe that laughter and humor is great medicine for the soul!
Life can be a labyrinth or a maze depending on the way we choose to think about it. I’m here to walk with you through this journey as a support and a confidant while you encounter those winds and turns. I look forward to working with you!
