As a therapist, I aim to guide and support clients in developing a deeper insight into the circumstances influencing how events in their life have unfolded and in discovering their interests and what motivates them. I heavily incorporate the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach into my counseling. Through this approach, I assist clients with developing an understanding of the cause-and-effect relationship between one’s past experiences, beliefs about oneself, one’s interpretation of current and new developments, and one’s emotional reactions to these developments. I also use a strengths-based focus to assist clients with identifying their successes, pursuits that have improved their well-being and happiness, and obstacles to pursuing their goals. These insights lay the groundwork to empower clients to process their struggles, discover their strengths and motivations, and identify and take attainable steps to progress closer to being the best versions of themselves.
I have a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and have spent a considerable part of my career working with marginalized populations. I have significant experience in providing therapy to clients struggling with depression, mood challenges, anxiety, past and current trauma, ADHD, couples challenges, family challenges, work and school challenges, addictions, domestic violence, and numerous other stressors. I have also worked extensively with individuals of all ages and backgrounds and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. In addition, I have assisted and supported clients in collaborating with partners, family members, and friends when appropriate for their treatment.
