Alexandra Hedgeman

Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially when you are unsure where to begin. My goal is to create a warm, welcoming, and judgment-free space where you can feel comfortable being yourself. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process, and I work alongside my clients to better understand their experiences, identify their strengths, and develop tools to navigate life’s challenges.

I earned my degree in Psychology from DePaul University. My professional experience in mental and behavioral health has given me the opportunity to work with individuals and families with a variety of emotional, behavioral, and developmental needs. These experiences have strengthened my passion for helping others feel heard, supported, and empowered.

My therapeutic approach is informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Person-Centered Therapy,  and Feminist Therapy. I use CBT to help clients explore the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and identify patterns that may be keeping them stuck. Through DBT, I incorporate practical skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and navigating relationships. I also incorporate principles of Feminist Therapy, recognizing that our identities, relationships, culture, and the expectations placed on us by society can shape our mental health and how we experience the world. I believe these factors deserve to be explored rather than overlooked.

Who I Work With

I am particularly interested in supporting adolescents and adults who are navigating:

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Depression and mood concerns

  • Emotional regulation

  • Self-esteem and self-worth

  • Relationship and family concerns

  • Life transitions and adjustment

  • Identity and personal growth

  • Coping with difficult emotions or life experiences

I strive to be warm, compassionate, genuine, and nonjudgmental while also providing gentle challenges when they can support growth. Our sessions may involve open conversation, self-reflection, skill-building, and exploring patterns that influence how you think, feel, and interact with others.

You don’t have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. Whether you’re going through a difficult transition, feeling overwhelmed by your emotions, or simply wanting to better understand yourself, I would be honored to work alongside you.

Outside of therapy, I enjoy reading, knitting, playing video games, watching movies, and exploring my many interests. I believe that therapy should be a space where you can bring your whole self, and that growth doesn’t require perfection.
