Hortensia is a Bilingual Social Worker with an additional certification in Evidence-based Mental Health Practice with Children. Hortensia received her bachelor’s degree in Human Services out of Columbia College of Missouri and master’s degree in Social Work from Jane Addams College of Social Work at UIC with a focus on mental health.
Hortensia works with individuals of all ages: children, adolescents, emerging adults and their families. Hortensia provides therapeutic family therapy when dealing with conduct and behavioral issues in children and adolescents. In addition, she offers evidence-based and solution-focused treatments to children needing assistance in anger management.
Hortensia’s experience in the social world field began with internships throughout the Chicago land area where she was able to learn and utilize a variety of treatment methods based on the needs of the client. Some of these methods include: Person-centered therapy, goal-oriented therapy, Solution-focused therapy, family systems therapy, Evidence-based therapies such as CBT-Cognitive Behavior Therapy, DBT-Dialectical Behavioral Therapy & Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing focusing on long and short-term therapy to all populations and age groups. Her internships allotted her the experience in dealing with juvenile justice and restorative justice for youth, as well as crisis intervention through individual therapy and at inpatient facilities dealing with individuals in crisis.
Hortensia is excited to help you and your family. By using person-centered, evidence-based treatments, her methods will create a comfortable atmosphere as a therapeutic relationship is formed. Her goal is to help individuals achieve their therapy goals as they embark on their treatment journey. Hortensia is especially interested in working with adolescents and emerging adults as they sort through their personal struggles and help them strive to live the best version of themselves. Hortensia is currently in the process of earning her License in Clinical Social Work.
